The Urgency of Charity

Sometimes, opportunities are put in front of us and we're just not ready.

On Christmas eve, Tim and I were driving a few miles to spend time with family at his sister's house. It was very cold out. The temperature was minus 5 degrees and the wind chill made it feel a lot colder.

On our way, we saw a young woman walking along the sidewalk in only a tee shirt and a pair of jeans. She crossed her arms and hunched her shoulders in an effort to stay warm as she trudged along.

As we passed, Tim said we need to turn around. He was prepared to give her his coat. Then, he looked in the rearview mirror and saw a vehicle pull over and pick her up. Thankfully.

Since that incident, I've been thinking about how we have to be ready to help the poor at a minute's notice. At the spur of the moment, we have to be prepared to give our best to those who can't give it back.

The mothers we serve need all the help we can give them. Today.

We have to be ready.

The poor can't wait.

May God shower you with His blessings.

Sincerely,
